Pale: An Old English word meaning a wooden stake or post, often used to build a fence and create boundaries.
A “pale” is an ancient word for a wooden stake or post, often used to make a fence or boundary.
We’ve named this blog, “Breaking Down the Pale” to evoke the old idiom “Beyond the Pale” which means “outside the bounds of acceptable behavior”. When someone went “beyond the pale,” they literally went to the other side, going into an area where society pre-determined they were not permitted or advised to go.
In our blog we will identify the boundaries that exist, we will go outside the physical, emotional, geographic, and cultural boundaries to test and break down the pale.
